Where To Stop On Your Way To The Snow This season – Lerida Estate
Mountainwatch | Lerida Estate
There are few joys to be had in making the 7 odd hour commute from our office in Sydney to the Snowy Mountains, as often as we do. Fewer still in the return journey.
However, one establishment has done a good job of convincing us that the journey is in fact as good as, or pretty darn close, to the destination. The journey for a good portion of NSW snow enthusiasts would see them pass through Canberra on the way to the slopes. In lieu of stopping at the infamous golden arches or a truck stop for refreshment, there are a host of cafes and wineries worth looking into instead, and one in particular.
Perched on the shores of Lake George, Lerida Estate is a well positioned stop-over, halfway between the Snowy Mountains and Sydney, nicely removed from the bustle of inner city Canberra.
In Winter you can warm up by their open fire, or on a bluebird day stretch the legs in the courtyard overlooking the vineyard and Lake George beyond.
For the wine connoisseurs, and the reason you’re most likely to be stopping by, the vineyards 19.6 acres of vines, produce some of the best Pinot Noir in the region. If that’s not to your taste there’s plenty of chardonnay, viognier, pinot gris, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and shiraz to go round too.
Use one of these fine drops to wash down something from their cafe which is open daily and manned by a full-time chef. Whether it’s a quick coffee and snack you require before pushing on to the slopes or a three course lunch, you’ll be well looked after.
Of course, it goes without saying to drink responsibly, and If driving we do recommend buying a bottle or two instead… Then at least you’ll have something to look forward to when you get home, or better yet, to crack open in the lodge after a big day on the hill.
Enter the social media competition (by sharing our post) to win a meal for two and a case of Lerida’s finest.
